Improve Your Writing, Reading and Speaking Skills, Part I

WHEN: October 2, 2023 @ 10:00 am - December 15, 2023 @ 6:00 pm WHERE: Online COST: $250.00

Overview

In this course, students will read intriguing texts on the world’s inexplicable mysteries such as pyramids, ghost apparitions, huge marine monsters, heroes with superpowers, UFOs, and many others. Since each text is accompanied by a recording and a dossier of activities, students will have the opportunity to further practice writing and speaking in Romanian while trying to offer explanations to the mysteries they have read about. For this class, students will keep a vocabulary journal and will write their own short texts or blog entries. Whenever possible, we will meet specialists in world history and science to interview them and work on more formal conversation skills. Groups of 4-5 students / 60 min, weekly.

Instructor

Elena Constantin

When she was little, Elena told her mother that she would continue reading children’s stories when she grew up. Her mother would laugh and tell her that eventually she would change her mind. Elena grew up, and she is still interested in children’s literature and also child development. She taught high school in Bucharest, Romania. In the Seattle area, she was a presenter for the public library’s World Language Story Time program, and volunteered for ARCS Seattle for their programs for children. Elena understands the challenges and the effort it takes for children with Romanian heritage living outside Romania to learn and speak Romanian. She has heard more than once from adults with Romanian ancestry, that they wish they had learned or spoken more Romanian. She believes the time and effort it takes children to improve their heritage language is an investment into their future, and their ability to navigate who they are in the world.
