Across America with Queen Marie of Romania

WHEN: November 16, 2026 - January 6, 2027 WHERE: University of Washington
Across America with Queen Marie of Romania commemorates the centennial of the 44-day tour undertaken by Queen Marie, Princess Ileana, and Prince Nicholas across the United States and Canada between October 18 and November 24, 1926. At the invitation of President Calvin Coolidge, Queen Marie of Romania undertook a landmark trip to the United States in 1926, traveling from New York City and Washington, D.C. to Seattle and Portland, with brief excursions north into Canada. She covered 10,000 miles by train, moving from city to city and often stopping for short visits to town halls, official ceremonies at railway stations, or brief addresses delivered from the rear platform of her train. On special occasions she spent the night in a hotel, continually meeting politicians, local officials, business leaders, representatives of women’s associations, delegations, farmers, and countless admirers—from those eager to shake her hand to children offering flowers. Explore Queen Marie's historic tour through rare archival material, official statements, newspaper articles, and original documents, many of which are being presented to the public for the first time.
