DESCRIPTION:Online Cooking Class with Irina Georgescu\n \nOur Romanian cooking series with Irina Georgescu continues! \nThere’s nothing more Romanian than the pies called plăcinte. Prized as an easy-to-eat\, satisfying street food staple\, plăcinte also take different forms across the country. \nTogether with author Irina Georgescu\, you will bake one of the most popular plăcinte: Romanian apple pie. \nIt features a not-too-sweet filling studded with raisins and walnuts that allows the apples to take centre stage. You’ll learn how to make a supple and easy-to-make dough that uses a secret ingredient (hint: it’s sour cream) to guarantee a delicious and traditional pie. \nWhile this is in the oven\, we’ll make a savoury cheese pastry from Dobrogea in south-eastern Romania\, called șuberec. You will learn about the rich ethnic diversity of this region in Romania\, and the variations of this iconic pastry. If you can resist eating them as soon as they’re done\, Irina will also teach you a quick cabbage slaw with a refreshing dressing that pairs perfectly with the rich\, cheesy pastry. \nIn this course\, you will make: \nApple pie\, plăcintă cu mere \nFried cheese pie\, șuberec \nCabbage salad\, salată de varză \nThe menu is for 4 people. The book was also translated into Hungarian and Dutch. Her second book\, ‘Tava\, Eastern European Baking and Desserts from Romania and Beyond’ is a meticulously researched baking book celebrating centuries of diversity and overlapping cultures that form today’s cuisine in Romania. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nRomanian History: Part I\, (3 quarters): This class is designed for students who want to learn about Romanian history\, including major personalities who steered the destiny of Romanians and their neighbors. Continuing the exploration of cultural identity and heritage through history\, students will enlarge their vocabulary and expand their reading\, listening\, and writing skills. Conceived as a three-quarter class\, we will go over crucial events starting with the Roman-Dacian wars\, the formation of the Romanian provinces\, and pursuing iconic leaders from Mircea the Elder\, Vlad the Impaler\, and Stephan to Alexandru Ioan Cuza and Carol I. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nUnique in the US\, the program “ALTA Exam Preparation”\, launched in 2016 with great success. This program is addressed to students from WA State\, and nationwide\, to help them earn high school credits for their heritage language by taking the ALTA Exam\, and possibly the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Course level depends on the student’s proficiency as evaluated by the instructor and their individual effort and progress. \nAfter you take ALTA\, you may also want to take an English proficiency test–STAMP\, which can be taken online\, or if you are a senior in high school and have already taken ACT or SAT–in order to qualify for the Global Seal of Biliteracy. ARCS can help you submit the results of these tests and thus to obtain the Global Seal of Biliteracy. \nThese diplomas will help with their admission process to highly-ranked universities in the US. SUMMARY:Romanian Culture\, Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nRomanian Culture offers high school students a space to reconnect with language\, memory\, and identity. Through film\, art\, music\, and everyday cultural practices\, students explore the traditions and modern expressions that shape Romanian life. The course encourages students to deepen their linguistic confidence while discovering the artistic trends that anchor Romanian heritage. \nThis class is open to last year’s students who already completed Romanian History\, as well as new students who meet with the instructor for a short evaluation beforehand. Groups of 4-7 students / 60 min\, weekly. This class is Part 1 of 3. \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\nScheduling\nTime: To Be Determined – We will work with parents and students to find the best times and days that work for you.\nPlease fill out the registration form to let us know your availability.  \n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n\nPayment\nTuition for this course includes 10 classes on Zoom (60 minutes each).\nWe offer need-based scholarships. SUMMARY:Romanian Citizenship Preparation Course
DESCRIPTION:OverviewThis course is designed specifically to prepare students for the Romanian citizenship exam. It covers essential vocabulary\, grammar\, reading\, and speaking skills aligned with the CEFR B1 level required under Article 10 of the citizenship application. In addition to achieving B1 proficiency\, students will have the opportunity to complete simulated language tests that mirror the structure and expectations of the official exam. We recommend one‑to‑one classes tailored to the specific needs of the participant to support stronger progress. Groups are also an option and they include 10 classes on zoom (60 minutes each).
