SUMMARY:Global Competence Certificate for Heritage Language Speakers
DESCRIPTION:The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) Migrant/Bilingual Department has awarded a first-ever Heritage Language Program Grant to Evergreen Public Schools in Vancouver\, WA\, to develop a year-long remote-learning program for Heritage Language speakers of Romanian\, Russian\, and Spanish. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nRomanian History: Part I\, (3 quarters): This class is designed for students who want to learn about Romanian history\, including major personalities who steered the destiny of Romanians and their neighbors. Continuing the exploration of cultural identity and heritage through history\, students will enlarge their vocabulary and expand their reading\, listening\, and writing skills. Conceived as a three-quarter class\, we will go over crucial events starting with the Roman-Dacian wars\, the formation of the Romanian provinces\, and pursuing iconic leaders from Mircea the Elder\, Vlad the Impaler\, and Stephan to Alexandru Ioan Cuza and Carol I. DESCRIPTION:Overview\nUnique in the US\, the program “ALTA Exam Preparation”\, launched in 2016 with great success. This program is addressed to students from WA State\, and nationwide\, to help them earn high school credits for their heritage language by taking the ALTA Exam\, and possibly the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Course level depends on the student’s proficiency as evaluated by the instructor and their individual effort and progress. \nAfter you take ALTA\, you may also want to take an English proficiency test–STAMP\, which can be taken online\, or if you are a senior in high school and have already taken ACT or SAT–in order to qualify for the Global Seal of Biliteracy. ARCS can help you submit the results of these tests and thus to obtain the Global Seal of Biliteracy. \nThese diplomas will help with their admission process to highly-ranked universities in the US. DESCRIPTION:OverviewThis course is designed specifically to prepare students for the Romanian citizenship exam. It covers essential vocabulary\, grammar\, reading\, and speaking skills aligned with the CEFR B1 level required under Article 10 of the citizenship application. In addition to achieving B1 proficiency\, students will have the opportunity to complete simulated language tests that mirror the structure and expectations of the official exam. We recommend one‑to‑one classes tailored to the specific needs of the participant to support stronger progress. Groups are also an option and they include 10 classes on zoom (60 minutes each).
