SUMMARY:ALTA Exam Preparation\, Part 1
DESCRIPTION:Overview\nUnique in the US\, the program “ALTA Exam Preparation”\, launched in 2016 with great success. This program is addressed to students from WA State\, and nationwide\, to help them earn high school credits for their heritage language by taking the ALTA Exam\, and possibly the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Course level depends on the student’s proficiency as evaluated by the instructor and their individual effort and progress. \nAfter you take ALTA\, you may also want to take an English proficiency test–STAMP\, which can be taken online\, or if you are a senior in high school and have already taken ACT or SAT–in order to qualify for the Global Seal of Biliteracy. ARCS can help you submit the results of these tests and thus to obtain the Global Seal of Biliteracy. \nThese diplomas will help with their admission process to highly-ranked universities in the US. Our method combines reading comprehension and grammar with interactive communicative methods. Groups of 4-7 students / 60 min\, weekly. SUMMARY:An Evening at Queen Marie's Salon Concert
DESCRIPTION:Queen Marie (1875–1938) was one of the most devoted patrons of the arts and an accomplished artist in her own right—painter\, writer\, and musician. Although her love for music is well known and extensively documented in her diaries\, memoirs\, and correspondence\, the fact that she was a skilled violinist and singer is less widely recognized. As much as she enjoyed making music\, she took even greater pleasure in listening to George Enescu’s recitals; whenever he performed in Romania\, she welcomed him as a guest of the Royal Family at both Peleș Castle and Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest. A close friend of the celebrated violinist and composer George Enescu and his wife\, Queen Marie was deeply familiar with the violin repertoire\, which included works by Fritz Kreisler\, Johannes Brahms\, Edvard Grieg\, and Jules Massenet. Above all\, she cherished Enescu’s virtuosic compositions inspired by Romanian folk tunes\, dances\, and old melodies. This recital presents several of Queen Marie’s favorite pieces\, featuring three iconic works of Romanian classical music: Ciprian Porumbescu’s Balada\, Grigoraș Dinicu’s Hora Marțișorului\, and George Enescu’s Sonata No. 3 “in Romanian Folk Character\,” as inscribed by the composer. Affectionately nicknamed “Pinx” by the Queen\, Enescu impressed her with the sound of his violin\, the “extraordinary beauty of his art\,” as she wrote in her diary on November 25\, 1928\, and with the magic that awakened “the music of our souls”—a dedication she inscribed on the photograph she offered him in gratitude. “An Evening at Queen Marie’s Salon Concert” will evoke the atmosphere of an exquisite early‑20th‑century music salon within the modern\, elegant Auditorium of the Seattle Public Library\, featuring violinist Kevin Matheson and pianist Tim Fuller. TicketsEnjoy a glimpse of them at a recent  George Enescu concert. Kevin MathesonViolinist Kevin Matheson\, was awarded first prize in the Charleston International Music Competition\, is a winner of Sound Espressivo’s ColOrchestra Auditions and performed as soloist with Orchestra Manhattan\, at Carnegie Weil Recital Hall. Kevin is a regular soloist with the Tahoe Philharmonic Orchestra and has recorded with the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra\, in the Czech Republic\, for the Cicerone Music and Arts label. Kevin and his brother\, as a violin-viola duo\, received critical acclaim at their Carnegie Weill Recital Hall début as part of the Ibla Grand Prize competition winners’ tour. Their two successful tours to Japan included recorded performances at Yamaha Hall in Tokyo. Kevin is concertmaster of the Orchestra of Virginia’s Blue Ridge\, an Adjunct Instructor at Hollins University in Roanoke\, Virginia and is on the roster of Price Attractions artist management. Tim FullerGrowing up in Beirut\, Lebanon\, Tim Fuller was exposed at an early age to Arabic\, Turkish and Balkan music. At twelve he presented a full-length piano recital at Amman's Goethe Institute. At Oberlin and at Wesleyan University he studied the South Indian and Javanese music traditions\, while presenting solo and chamber music concerts in the Middle East and the U.S.  Tim currently is a collaborative pianist based in Seattle\, Washington.

One evening\, when she is assaulted after meeting a local\, Natalia asks Ita\, a friend from home turned into a crook\, to help her. Ita uses their frustration against the values of a world they consider to be arrogant\, decadent\, and historically guilty for their misery as second-rate citizens – invisible migrants. The result is a tragi-comical ideological heist only revealing the complete lack of communication between East and West\, between rich and poor\, between masters and slaves. \n Read More\n \n	  \nBlindsightby Adrian Sitaru\n2025\, Road movie drama\, 91 min(Romania\, Türkiye) \n \n Laura suffers from severe amnesia and depression following an accident\, so she can’t remember who the people around her are. SUMMARY:Across America with Queen Marie of Romania
DESCRIPTION:Across America with Queen Marie of Romania commemorates the centennial of the 44-day tour undertaken by Queen Marie\, Princess Ileana\, and Prince Nicholas across the United States and Canada between October 18 and November 24\, 1926. At the invitation of President Calvin Coolidge\, Queen Marie of Romania undertook a landmark trip to the United States in 1926\, traveling from New York City and Washington\, D.C. to Seattle and Portland\, with brief excursions north into Canada. She covered 10\,000 miles by train\, moving from city to city and often stopping for short visits to town halls\, official ceremonies at railway stations\, or brief addresses delivered from the rear platform of her train. On special occasions she spent the night in a hotel\, continually meeting politicians\, local officials\, business leaders\, representatives of women’s associations\, delegations\, farmers\, and countless admirers—from those eager to shake her hand to children offering flowers. Explore Queen Marie's historic tour through rare archival material\, official statements\, newspaper articles\, and original documents\, many of which are being presented to the public for the first time.  November 16\, 2026 - January 6\, 2027The Allen Library North LobbyUniversity of Washington4000 15th Ave NE Seattle\, WA 98195 Organized by the American Romanian Cultural Society in collaboration with the University of Washington Libraries\, the Maryhill Museum of Art\, and Kent State University\, the exhibition is curated by Ileana Marin\, Gabriela Cociuba\, and Abigail Hulst.
